Philips, a leading health technology company, celebrates 90 years in Argentina, faithful to its purpose of improving people's health and well-being through significant innovation.

Since its arrival in the country, the company has been part of the lives of generations of Argentines with a diversified offer of technological solutions. In recent decades, it has undergone a profound transformation to focus fully on health: from state-of-the-art medical equipment in the country's main institutions to its personal care line, which promotes healthier lifestyles on a daily basis.

In order to maximize its impact on communities, at Philips the development of innovation occurs in three aspects:

  • Focused on people and patients: The company works closely with customers and based on their needs, rather than starting with technology. That's why we collaborate with a broad ecosystem of clinical partners to deeply understand what they need and what problems they want to solve. Innovation is based on consumer knowledge.
  • Agile development with a focus on quality: the development of new and better solutions happens as close as possible to customers and consumers; applying an integrated, business-led approach that makes it possible to innovate at high speed and with the highest quality.
  • Scalable: The focus is on innovation initiatives that can have the greatest impact on large communities of people and patients, ensuring they have the necessary resources to succeed. The investment is in initiatives with the opportunity and potential to scale, to achieve maximum impact and set the standard in its segment.

Invest to innovate

Philips is among the top 5 patent applicants in MedTech according to the European Patent Office, and is a leader in patent applications for artificial intelligence applied to health. In addition, it was recognized as the best positioned company in the medical and biotechnology industry on the list Clarivate Top 100 Global Innovator 2024.

"In 2024, we will invest 9% of Philips revenue in research and development, a higher proportion than our direct competitors. 90% of our R&D investment goes to our 17 Business Units, where multidisciplinary teams are responsible for driving innovation from creation to delivery. The remaining 10% goes to our corporate innovation function, which supports Business Units with fundamental and disruptive solutions, as well as as with strategic ventures and partnerships. This approach pays off: approximately 50% of last year's sales came from new or improved products launched in the last 3 years,” Lopez commented.

With its innovations, in the field of health, Philips is standing out with disruptive technologies such as BlueSeal, the first helium-free MRI machine, with smart reading powered by AI, which improves productivity, facilitates diagnosis and reduces environmental impact. It also recently launched the CT5300 with AI-based image reconstruction and drives a hospital model with an open ecosystem that integrates alarms, monitoring and real-time clinical data through next-generation IT solutions and applications.

With regards to Personal Carel, the company incorporates superior technologies in its products – and the ecosystems around them – to help people feel good and create their own style, exploiting their potential, boosting their self-confidence and improving their experience in their daily care routine (skin and hair). Examples of this are the innovations LUMEA (Intense Pulsed Light epilator that revolutionized the world of hair removal) and OneBlade, a disruptive versatile trimmer with exclusive technology that trims, shapes and shaves any length of beard, while taking care of the skin.

For its part, in relation to Mom and baby care, the Philips Avent brand has as its main objective the well-being of both through the best and most intuitive technologies in products for babies and mothers during the first thousand days of the newborn. Natural Response baby bottles have technology that allows them to function in the same way as the mother's breast, adapting to the baby's natural feeding rhythm, facilitating the combination of breastfeeding and the bottle.

"As consumer expectations evolve and the world's health systems face increasing demand for care, it becomes extremely relevant to help people stay healthy from care at home. Technological innovations are paving the way for a more proactive and preventative approach to health and healthcare, empowering men and women to lead a healthy lifestyle and manage health problems or chronic diseases from home. Modern consumers want to take control of their own health and at Philips we are committed to help them to achieve it,” Lopez concluded.
