Artificial intelligence (AI) has long been considered a technology that can help manufacturing and distribution companies modernize and digitize their operations.
Rubén Belluomo, commercial manager at Infor Cono Sur, describes it as a tool that makes operations work more efficiently, and comments on some of the ways in which AI can help a logistics and distribution company:

Sales recommendations:
You can make recommendations for additional purchases to what the customer is buying and those made over the counter provide information to make suggestions to customers.

Proactive supplier recommendations:
Any errors in the supplier selection process can cause poor performance, supply chain disruptions, and business process inefficiencies. Machine learning models powered by AI segment suppliers considering: punctuality, quality and quantity of available suppliers.

Discount recommendations:
Using historical data from customer orders, the AI knows the items, quantities, prices and discounts of each order, and increases customer knowledge with the maximum recommendations that can be offered.

Inventory Optimization:
Having too much inventory fills distribution centers and compromises capital, since not enough inventory cannot fill orders. IF the inventory is not in the proper distribution center it adds cost to transportation and delivery time. AI can analyze customer order patterns and optimize the quantity in inventory to increase sales and profitability.

Artificial intelligence can also:
Help maximize asset life through predictive analysis on health, maintenance and spare parts needs; generate visibility on what to sell and how to keep customers satisfied, as it improves efficiency in interaction and retention, increasing billing; initiate automated process triggers considering specific events or conditions to improve efficiency and decrease manual processes; access hidden data to increase automation and achieve greater efficiency.
