Huawei is the second company in global investment in R&D according to the R&D Investment Scoreboard (2021 EU Industrial R&D Investment Scoreboard), which the European Union prepares each year. This represents an improvement for Huawei since last year the company was in third place.

This European Commission report is produced by the EU Joint Research Center (JRC) and ranks the research investment levels of 2,500 companies around the world. The investment of these large companies accounts for 90% of the R&D financed at the corporate level worldwide.

Much of Huawei's global research takes place in Europe. The company created its first research center in Sweden in 2000. Today it employs more than 2,400 researchers in 23 research centers across the continent. Through a series of collaborations with more than 150 European universities, Huawei is deeply involved and integrated into the ICT research ecosystem in Europe. Through this collaborative project, it makes Europe ready for the digital age.

The statement adds that Huawei firmly believes that international research collaboration strengthens the EU's competitiveness and contributes to the mitigation of climate change, which represents strategic support for the European Green Deal.
