After an investment of almost USD 400 million, the company aims to transform local infrastructure and strengthen Tierra del Fuego's position in the industrial and commercial landscape.

The Mirgor industrial group – manufacturer and assembler of cell phones, air conditioning equipment and electronic devices – announced an ambitious expansion project that involves the construction of an advanced multimodal port complex in the city of Río Grande, Tierra del Fuego.

With an estimated investment of around USD 380 million, the plan aims to transform local infrastructure and strengthen the province's position in the industrial and commercial landscape. Work will begin in July 2024 and the complex is expected to begin operating in mid-2025. The project will also have a positive impact on the labor sector, generating employment for more than 400 workers during its execution. The construction will take place on a plot of land of more than 200 hectares north of the city.

The governor of Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and the South Atlantic Islands, Gustavo Melella, emphasized the importance of the project for the development of the region: “In order to sustain our plan to expand the productive matrix, we had to expand the port network because Río Grande needs its port for the development and growth of the industry.”

The new port is expected to play a crucial role in the industrialization of hydrocarbons and renewable energy, including the production of green hydrogen. According to José Luis Alonso, executive director of Grupo Mirgor, “this work will open up new development opportunities for Tierra del Fuego and in particular in Río Grande and all its associated industries.”

The strategic location of the port complex is another of its highlights. Roberto Murcia, president of the Provincial Directorate of Ports of Tierra del Fuego, stressed that “having a port located in the northern part and especially with direct access to the South Atlantic is extremely important.”
