TABLETS: A market that globally points towards growth
While the global market begins to show a recovery in sales, in Argentina suppliers maintain an offer that ranges from 7-inch models to those larger than 10. They seek to advance in connectivity, the definition of screens and also in the incorporation of Artificial Intelligence.

The tablet market had solid growth in second quarter of 2024
Without comparison with the high levels of global shipments and demand that tablets had during the pandemic, the numbers prior to it are already being reached and the market, in business terms, is beginning to leave it behind. Specialists hope that a cycle of equipment renewal, and growth in emerging markets, can contribute to the recovery in the short term.
According to preliminary data from IDC, global tablet shipments saw 22.1% year-over-year growth in the second quarter of 2024. They totaled 34.4 million units driven by product updates from many vendors and a replacement cycle combined with inventory replenishment. However, the volumes are only comparable to pre-pandemic shipment levels and not the unprecedented sales seen during it. 2Q24 results compare favorably to 2Q19, when 32.5 million units were shipped.
Apple sold 12.3 million units and grew 18.2% year-over-year in the quarter. Samsung took second place, with shipments of 6.9 million units, representing year-on-year growth of 18.6%. Lenovo ranked third, with year-over-year growth of 16.7% and shipments of 2.5 million units. Huawei, in fourth position, had year-on-year growth of 40.3% with shipments of 2.3 million units. Xiaomi finished the quarter in fifth place with a growth of 94.7% year-on-year, and reached 2 million units.
“The second quarter 2024 results indicate that the market has put the pandemic behind us,” said Anuroopa Nataraj, senior research analyst for Mobility and Consumer Device Trackers at IDC. “We expect the renewal cycle and growth in emerging markets to continue contributing to the recovery in the short term. While new market entrants focus on global expansion, long-term leaders continue to focus on improving technology (such as OLED displays for iPad Pros), meeting the need for premium devices, and harnessing the power of emerging technologies such as AI. “Long-term gains for the market depend on the ability of vendors to create devices that can open a niche for tablets, one that includes innovation and differentiation.”
