From communications from the moon to the earth to the rebirth of a fashion icon with the new razr family, Motorola was the protagonist of each of the key moments in telecommunications that defined the history of humanity, and shares what it believes will be what is coming.

Create social impact

Since 1928, Motorola has been at the forefront of technology. Perhaps the most notable moment of the preceding decades was the Apollo 11 moon landing, which used Motorola radio equipment technology to provide the first communications from Earth to the Moon. This technology allowed Neil Armstrong to share his famous words with the world: “One small step for man, one giant leap for humanity.”
A few years later, Martin Cooper, former vice president and head of R&D at Motorola, made the first call from a mobile phone on 6th Avenue in New York, paving the way for anyone, anywhere, to talk to friends, family and co-workers at any time. These inventions redefined the world we know today.

influence culture

In the early 2000s, the razr V3 was born, redefining the design of a mobile phone. With its bright colors, clamshell design, and slim look, the Razr v3 quickly became a fashion icon.

In 2019, Motorola saw consumers' desire for more consistent connections and faster download speeds. These insights gave rise to the moto z3 combined with the moto 5G mod™, which became the world's first commercially available smartphone to connect to the 5G network. Since then, they have prioritized democratizing this connectivity, introducing 5G capabilities to their moto g families and have brought this spirit of exploration and innovation to their current portfolio.

Transform technology

This year, in 2023, Motorola pays tribute to 10 years of the moto g, a franchise built on the democratization of premium technologies, including faster processors, advanced displays, exceptional design, Turbo Power charging, 5G technology and much more. The latest moto gs offer impressive chipsets, strong camera capabilities and enhanced entertainment experiences through display and audio, so consumers have access to the technologies that matter most to them.

The brand also continues this momentum in the motorola edge family. In the last year, they have announced some of the slimmest smartphones to date, an industry-first 200MP main camera sensor, a world-exclusive collaboration with PANTONE™ and introduced exclusive new device finishes, such as vegan leather, to the range.

The edge family continues to push the boundaries by reimagining the design, feel and capabilities of a smartphone. But that's not all: Motorola has also presented the new generation of the razr family. The Motorola Razr 40 Ultra reimagines the foldable design and includes the largest, most functional external display on a foldable smartphone, allowing users to see what's important and do more without having to open the phone. The device's dynamic hinge can be positioned at multiple angles for expert content creation, and its compact design fits in both pockets and purses.

And to make the foldable category available to more and more people, Motorola has lowered the price threshold. The Motorola Razr 40 offers a foldable experience balanced with high-end smartphone features. These new Razr devices give consumers the opportunity to become a fashion icon again. In fact, nearly 40% of consumers would consider a foldable for their next device1, and 20% of new Razr buyers come from other leading premium smartphone brands.1

The next 95 years of innovation

Although Motorola is proud of its history, they continue to focus on the present without losing sight of the future. This perspective has paid off as they see growth in all markets around the world, especially in the premium and B2B families, including services, solutions and exclusive business edition devices like the Lenovo ThinkPhone by Motorola. These developments build on Lenovo's iconic PC sub-brands, such as ThinkPad, known for its purposeful design and trusted quality, modern ThinkBook laptops built for SMBs, premium Yoga PCs for consumers and creators, and Lenovo Legion, which takes gaming to the limits.

“At Motorola, we are revolutionizing the market with our premium devices and one-of-a-kind features,” said Sergio Buniac, president of Motorola. “As part of Lenovo’s commitment to smarter technology for everyone, we are offering consumers more innovative options than ever, and it is paying off as we look to double our business over the next three years.”

With this goal in mind, Motorola is committed to entering new markets, strengthening B2B synergies with Lenovo and discovering new ways to enhance the Motorola brand and its relationship with consumers. In addition to that, they will continue to bring innovation to the market by exploring ways to interact and engage with devices through the use of AI technology, new designs that fold and adapt to different situations, intelligent and seamless connection between devices adapted to the needs of users and unique software experiences. Leading with this strategy, Motorola feels prepared to face the next 95 years.
