Goodbye to the plug in the kitchen
The appliances of the future will have wireless charging
For a couple of years, electronic devices such as phones, smart watches and headphones have had wireless charging systems, a technology that simplified the way to restore battery life. Soon, this modality will extend to the entire house with wireless power supply systems in home appliances.
The Wireless Power Consortium (WPC) is the body responsible for defining and developing wireless charging standards and has just announced the Ki Cordless Kitchen standard. This system will have the capacity to send up to 2200 watts to various appliances used in the kitchen.
“Small appliances such as electric rice cookers, toasters, blenders and coffee makers, among others, can be put into operation by simply resting them on a charge-conducting surface, which may be hidden in a counter,” said the WPC.
In this way, these devices will be able to do without cables so that they can work. The Ki Cordless Kitchen system will use an NFC system to validate the connection between the charging transmitter base and the compatible appliance.
In turn, this loading area, which may be hidden under the counter, can be left free to perform other tasks and take advantage of the kitchen spaces, since the Ki Cordless Kitchen system will be able to distinguish if there is a key, a phone or a wallet, to avoid accidents.
