Samsung Electronics announced that the electrocardiogram (ECG) and blood pressure monitoring functions are now enabled in Argentina on the Watch5 Pro, Watch5 and Watch4 smart watches. The two features are in addition to functions already offered by Samsung Health, such as the evolution of body mass, sleep regulation, blood oxygen control and stress reduction. These updates are not medical products, therefore, if you have any questions, it is important to share the information provided with doctors and health professionals.

The EKG feature records the heart's electrical activity through a sensor on a compatible Galaxy Watch. The Samsung Health Monitor app can be opened when the user is seated and the watch is securely attached to the wrist. The forearm should be placed on a flat surface and the fingertip of the opposite hand should be placed on the top button of the watch for 30 seconds. The app will measure heart rate and rhythm, which will be classified as sinus rhythm (a normal, normal heartbeat) or AFib (when the heart beats irregularly). This data can be exported to a PDF file.

To activate these features, users will need to install the Samsung Health Monitor app on their Samsung Galaxy smartphone running Android 7 or higher and connect it to their compatible Galaxy Watch (Galaxy Watch5 Pro, Galaxy Watch5 and Galaxy Watch4). Once this step is done, you will have to calibrate your blood pressure with a traditional cuff. They can then tap Measure on their device and access their blood pressure status whenever they want. The team works through analysis of the pulse wave, which is tracked with heart rate monitoring sensors. From this, the program records the relationship between the calibration value and the change in blood pressure to determine its pressure. To ensure accuracy, it is necessary to calibrate the device at least every 28 days.
