The Modern Marketing Insights 2022 playbook, from MMA and the consulting firm Hibou, shows that companies that want to remain competitive in 2023 will have to focus their marketing efforts on traditional and emerging virtual spaces, including gaming, mobile applications and the metaverse. Below, 5 segments to keep an eye on.

5G telecommunications and mobile applications
The number of mobile users is growing in Latin America: according to GSM, the 328 million in 2020 will become 423 million in 2025, an increase of 57% to 64% of the total population. The advance of 5G will tend to revolutionize this market even more, although Latin America is lagging behind: by 2025 only 11% of mobile connections will be linked to this new technology.

Retail ecommerce
In 2019, retail ecommerce in the region represented only 4.9% of retail sales. According to eMarketer data, it will increase to 17.7% in 2026. Three Latin American economies are among the ten fastest growing in the world in 2022: Brazil (4th with a 22.2% increase), Argentina (6th, +18.6%) and Mexico (9th, +18%).

Gaming and entertainment
Gaming is no longer a teenage and male target: according to Adsmovil, 73% of adults are mobile gamers and 52% of them are women. Statista indicated that mobile games generated revenue of more than $91 million in 2022 and became the most successful segment, above the $58.6 million revenue from console games.

Social media
Hootsuite calculated that social networks occupy almost 40% of the time that men aged 16 to 24 are online (among women it falls to 36%), a figure that reaches 30.8% and 27.2% in the 55 to 64 year old segment, men and women respectively. Combined with the mobility trend, 98.5% of those who use Facebook do so through a mobile device.

Metaverso
This alternative universe, which replicates reality, is the rising star: According to McKinsey, 59% of people were excited by the possibility of transferring their daily activities to the metaverse, 57% of companies plan to adopt it and 79% of active users in this virtual world have already made a purchase.
