With the aim of becoming a 100% sustainable company, the Electrolux appliances firm will invest US $ 2.5 m in its Rosario plant to launch an energy efficiency project. Through this disbursement, the company of Swedish origin will migrate its refrigeration system to the use of less polluting gas.
"We are going to move from gas 134 to R600 gas in all new equipment. The cooling systems carry an internal gas, which produces the effect of cooling and the most common is gas 134 but this new technology that we are going to incorporate, fulfills the same function and pollutes less," said Biz Mariano Noguerón, director of manufacturing at Electrolux Argentina.
As to manipulate gas, special equipment is needed and it is a process that has to be well controlled, the group activated important investments in machinery and technology that will finish fulfilling in the second semester of 2021. “In the plant we use large tanks and requires many security measures, which entails investments to contain that gas and implement its use. In addition, this will also imply a change in the design of the products,” said Noguerón.
The initiative is part of the Global Electrolux plan to advance in the next 10 years, on its path of transformation to a neutral carbon company with zero gase emissions. To achieve this, it will support three fundamental pillars: energy efficiency, elimination of the use of natural gas and packaging and migration to renewable energy.
In Argentina, Electrolux's commitment is to become a climate neutral company through zero reduction of its plant emissions and offices. The Rosario plant has the ISO 50.001 and 14,001 certification, which means that it is a sustainable and respectful company with the environment that works with the focus on energy efficiency, the responsible water use and a correct waste reduction policy.
"The first stage of the investment is already underway with the purchase of the main equipment and we will continue until the transformation of the product we sell in terms of the impact of the environment. All cooling equipment will use this new gas, and the first adapted product, with some design retouching, will come to the market in early 202," said Noguerón, about the development that will allow the company to implement friendly lines.
