As published by Mobile World Live, the South Korean operator KT launched a trade-in program to encourage customers who use LG Electronics phones to purchase the latest Apple iPhones. KT offers a credit of 150,000 South Korean won (about 112 euros), added to the trade-in value of certain LG models, to customers who have owned one of the manufacturer's devices for at least one month. The program will be valid until September 25. Kim Byeong-gyun, director of KT's device business, announced that the program aims to make it easier for LG smartphone users to switch to the iPhone. According to Yonhap News Agency, both SK Telecom and LG Uplus are running the same trade-in offer, and Apple's local subsidiary is behind the promotion because it is trying to prevent LG users from switching en masse to Samsung devices. The information adds that according to Counterpoint Research figures, Samsung led the market in the first quarter with a share of 65%. According to ZDNet, the manufacturer has expanded the trade-in plan launched in April to include not only the LG V50 ThinQ, but also other 4G and 5G models. The offer will be valid until the end of June.
LG is exiting the mobile phone market, but plans to continue supporting devices through software updates and services.
