According to recent research by Equifax, a global Big Data, Analytics and technology company, the Retail segment is the one with the highest loans granted during the holidays, showing an increase of 46% in the last three years.
The largest applicants for retail loans during the holidays are Millennials aged 24 to 39, who increase their demand by 60%, followed by Generation Z aged 18 to 23 with a 52% increase, followed by Generation their requests by 26%.
If classified by socioeconomic level, those who most request financing statistically belong to the low socioeconomic level, with an increase of 55%, followed by medium-low 45%, medium-high 27% and high 31%. Thus, low or medium socioeconomic levels request 50% more retail loans in December than in November.
When it comes to consumption patterns during the Christmas period, men's credit card balances increase by 30% while Generation X and Baby Boomer women lead holiday purchases. Centennials, for their part, finance their purchases in installments twice as much as other generations.
As for the star products, for the holidays the purchase of alcoholic beverages increases by 43%, and that of dairy products decreases by 4%. On the other hand, digital entertainment is part of the top 10 most consumed categories for people over 30 years of age specifically at this time. It should be noted that the video game category is also part of the Top Ten categories of regular consumption but for people under 30 years old.
The study, based on 6,500,000 Argentines and their consumption over the last 3 years, during the Christmas season, compares December vs. November.
“Our study reveals that large retail chains that offer loans and forms of financing during the holidays usually see their demand increase considerably so that Argentines can materialize the idea of bringing a gift to their loved ones,” explains Santiago Pordelanne, President of Equifax for Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay.
Finally, the distribution of expenses according to socioeconomic level when comparing December with November shows that the ABC1 group spends 71% more than the average.
