After the announcement days ago by the North American firm to cease operations in Argentina, the future of nearly 500 workers who work at the Río Grande facilities remained uncertain, which is why different actions were articulated by the Municipality and the Province aimed at resolving the conflict.

In this sense, Mirgor confirmed last night that it acquired Brightstar - the country's main cell phone manufacturer - “and its cell phone manufacturing operation in Tierra del Fuego and complementary services in the country”, confirming the continuity of the jobs in question.

According to a cable from the Télam agency, with the acquisition of 100% of Brightstar's shareholding, Mirgor spokespersons confirmed that it will control approximately 50% of mobile phone manufacturing in Argentina.

“Mirgor considered it strategic to support and commit to the maintenance and development of the industrial activity of Tierra del Fuego, in addition to strengthening and protecting the jobs that the industry generates on the Island,” reads the statement.

It is worth mentioning that, in its plants located in the Río Grande Industrial Park, Mirgor manufactures cell phones, electronic items, air conditioners, and accessories for the automotive industry, among others.

It also produces artificial respirators in association with the Leistung firm of Córdoba, at a rate of 1,000 units per month to supply Health centers throughout the Republic in the context of the pandemic.
