Kenichiro Yoshida, president and CEO of Sony Group Corporation, explained in a press conference that Sony's collaboration with content creators is essential to fulfill the company's purpose of "filling the world with emotions through the power of creativity and technology."

Main products and technologies

Sony's exhibition focused on efforts to move people's hearts and expand the possibilities of entertainment through technologies and initiatives related to the metaverse, mobility and through its collaboration with creators.

STAR SPHERE

Sony exhibited “Space Shooting Lab”, an experimental simulator that proposes experimental photography from space that STAR SPHERE plans to offer in the future, and the model of a nano satellite equipped with Sony photographic equipment.

Technology for creators

Sony supports production activities for top creators and upcoming creators. The booth featured image production with digital cinema cameras such as VENICE 2, the Alpha series full-frame mirrorless camera, the VLOGCAM series, the Airpeak professional drone, Xperia smartphones, and the Creators Cloud, a cloud-based media production platform. In addition, Sony will propose the production of high-quality sound content through microphones and headphones for professionals and creators in general.

Expand the potential of the virtual and the physical

Sony is conducting a PoC (proof of concept) with English Premier League football club Manchester City to form the next generation of online fan communities by combining physical and virtual to excite and engage with sports fans. At the stand, visitors experienced metaverse content as if they were in Manchester City's Etihad Stadium, reproduced in a virtual space.

New experiences for sports fans from real-time data

The expo featured initiatives related to sports data: from capturing data on the field, creating virtual content in real time and offering multiple platforms to fans.

Portable volumetric capture

The prototype of a system capable of capturing and distributing animated 3D reconstructions of people, objects and spaces with low latency anywhere was shown. It only requires seven sensors, allowing it to be quickly deployed anywhere to meet demand for live 3D video distribution. A 360° view of the Manchester City players and the public could be enjoyed in a 3D space in the metaverse, through tablets and Sony's spatial reality screens.

Spatial reality displays: A new prototype with a large 27-inch screen

Sony presented a 27-inch prototype of the spatial reality display (SR Display) that reproduces the real world with 3D spatial images. The larger screen format allows you to display life-size objects so that medical images and product designs can be reproduced more realistically.

Preview powered by “mocopi”

The pre-visualization technology was demonstrated using Sony's “mocopi” mobile motion capture system, which allows camera handling and character positions to be reviewed with VFX editing at the pre-production stage. A CG model is displayed on the display monitor, which is synchronized in real time with the movement of the model wearing the “mocopi” device. This technology helps optimize production workflow and allows creators to simulate production in the early stages

PlayStation VR2 y PlayStation 5

Sony showcased PlayStationVR2 (PS VR2), the next-generation virtual reality headset for PlayStation5 (PS5) that delivers an unrivaled immersive gaming experience. PS VR2 has some key features enabled through PS VR2 Sense Technology, such as headset feedback, eye tracking, 3D sound, adaptive buttons, and PS VR2 Sense controller haptic feedback.
