With an investment of 20 million pesos, resulting from the agreement drawn up between Peabody and the Ministry of Culture, the “Anfi” will be renovated based on improvements in infrastructure and state-of-the-art technology to offer shows of international quality for all residents of the City. The transformation can be experienced starting in March 2024, with the reopening of the space.

The Amphitheater of the Centennial Park will be renewed based on an agreement reached between the renowned appliance brand Peabody and the Ministry of Culture of the City of Buenos Aires. This alliance is framed in the Buenos Aires Sponsorship Law and aims to benefit neighbors and the general public, being one of the most prestigious public spaces of Buenos Aires, linked to music and the performing arts. The comprehensive development and revitalization of “Anfi”, located in the neighborhood of little horse, includes a contribution of $20,000,000, which includes improvements in the technical and aesthetic conditions of this space that already has 70 years of experience, and promoting the programming of quality artistic events for all audiences.

This support, which will cover a period of two years, arises in the context of celebration of the brand's twentieth anniversary. The company aims not only to contribute to the beautification and modernization of the amphitheater facilities, but also to actively support Argentine art and the various cultural expressions of our country, elevating the experience for culture lovers who frequent this prestigious space.

In addition to its support to improve infrastructure, Peabody is committed to enriching the cultural experience by carrying out various activities and shows that will be proposed and organized by the same brand. “With this sponsorship, we reaffirm once again our mission as a brand, which goes beyond excellence in products, we also seek to actively contribute to the cultural enrichment of Argentine society,” commented Dante Choi, President of Goldmund S.A.

Works that will be carried out and are estimated to be completed by March 2024, when it reopens its doors in space

– Equipment will be incorporated for internal telecommunications of the areas.

– Equipment will be added to perfect the sound of the shows.

– Lighting will be added to the stage to improve the quality of the shows

– Public bathrooms and those of artists will be repaired.

– The façade of the stands, passageways and the external signage of the Anfi will be highlighted.

– Air conditioning equipment will be added to the different staff work areas.

Current conditions

It has the capacity to 1640 spectators and a stage measuring 18 by 12 meters plus an orchestra pit measuring 18 by 5 meters. It has a 9 meter high lighting grill, a 17 by 7 meter projection screen (front and back) and a sound and lighting booth at the FOH. In addition, it has warehouses, four VIP dressing rooms and two general ones and even a workshop under the stage for the stage crew, two maneuvering bridges on each side and 6 curtains with a central opening. Outside of the scenography, the administration and technical offices also coexist in this space; fire safety system and public toilets for women, men and the disabled.

Unlike the original Amphitheater, whose stage overlooked the lake, and the provisional stage installed at the beginning of the democratic period, the current Amphitheater is a construction completely integrated into the Park. Its entrance is through Lillo Street and its intersection with Leopoldo Marechal.

History:

The original building was inaugurated on March 25, 1953 under the name “Eva Perón” Amphitheater, following Eva's original idea, to hold the Teatro Colón's summer seasons on its stage, so that its reach is massive. The first performance was the opera “Aída” by Giuseppe Verdi, the same one that inaugurated the Teatro Colón in 1908 and the 10 thousand seats in the audience were full.

It is located on the Parque Centenario property, which was designed by the prestigious landscaper Carlos Thays and inaugurated at the beginning of the last century, to celebrate one hundred years of the Homeland. It is also the largest green lung in Caballito: the most densely populated neighborhood in the City, with 200 thousand inhabitants.

The auditorium was an open stage area for more than ten thousand people, with fan-shaped stands and a stage made up of three parabolic arches. The work, built almost entirely of wood, had a careful relationship with the park's trees and its surroundings.

Since its origins, shows of all genres have been presented for the entire public. In 1959, it suffered a fire. With the advent of democracy it was temporarily rebuilt with the efforts of the workers themselves. It had a temporary stage, to give rise to numerous artistic presentations that once again attracted large crowds in the public space.

On Tuesday, June 9, 2009, the Amphitheater was re-inaugurated when the Ministry of Culture of Buenos Aires invited, through the General Directorate of Music, all the residents of the city to participate in a concert by the Symphonic Band of the City of Buenos Aires. This was the beginning of the new Parque Centenario Amphitheater.

Regarding the offer of official programs, shows have been presented at the Teatro Colón, with its stable bodies: the Orchestra, the Ballet and the stable Choir, in addition to the Chamber Opera, the Academic Orchestra and the Children's Choir of the Higher Institute of Art. At the national level, the National Symphony Orchestra, the Polyphonic Choir, the National Folkloric Ballet, the National Band of the Blind, the National Youth Choir, the National Children's Choir, the Juan de Dios Filiberto Argentine Music Orchestra, among others, perform regularly. Naturally, the stable organizations of the City's General Directorate of Music also perform there: the Symphonic Band of the City of Buenos Aires and the Buenos Aires Tango Orchestra.

At the level of private and independent undertakings, it would be impossible to list all the proposals that have been presented on the stage of the Amphitheater regarding music, dance, theater and the multiplicity of artistic manifestations, both professional and vocational (workshops of the Cultural Program in Neighborhoods, Cultural Promotion, Collectives, etc.).

Any show in The ANFI is always a true festival of culture since it adds the relationship with nature to the artistic project. People who usually visit Centenario Park are tempted to participate in the free, outdoor activities. This makes it a cultural center with music as the epicenter, whose acoustic quality, amenities and geographical location make it a source of pride for the city's inhabitants.
