With an investment of USD200,000, the company with stores in La Plata and Microcentro, began to market the KIRI M2, the first version that is offered at $105,000 (in cash), with a 12-month warranty and that can be purchased at Rodar stores in person or through the Web. It has free shipping throughout the country and can also be paid with financing, through credit cards.
During the quarantine, Rodar Electric announced a 230% growth in sales, with a projection of 1,600 bicycles sold by the end of the year, and a turnover of more than 120 million pesos. By 2021, they plan to invoice more than 200 million pesos and sell more than 500 scooters.
The Kiri tree, known as Empress or Paulownia stormosa, is native to China, it is called the fastest growing tree in the world, which can purify infertile soil, absorb ten times more carbon dioxide than any other species (due to its large leaves and metabolic characteristics) and emit large amounts of oxygen. At the end of the 70s, genetic improvement work began that allowed the design of a new hybrid.
“Along with each skateboard we sell, we will deliver a seedling of this tree and also its seeds, so that our customers can give to their loved ones, in order to invite them not only to improve the quality and experience of their trips, but also to be part of sustainable mobility that is here to stay,” says Juan Martín Savage, founder of Rodar Electric.
The new Kiri M2 model is black. Its battery is 36V-7.5AH lithium that will allow it to have a range between 25 and 30 kilometers. It charges like a cell phone or notebook and takes between 3 and 4 hours to fully charge. In addition, it has a 350 watt motor and a maximum speed of 30 km/h. It has the possibility of choosing between three speed levels and/or using the cruising speed mode. Its weight is 13.8 kg. It has 8.5 tires, front and rear suspension, disc brakes and supports up to 120 kilos. All models include free anti-puncture liquid from ARW-18, a national industry brand that accompanies Rodar Electric in this launch.
"We want when someone sees a Kiri skateboard to know that a tree was planted. We want to help improve air quality, not only by getting people out of combustion vehicles, but also by helping to reforest the area where they live," concludes Savage.
