Computer science is replenished and seeks to recover market
The activity indicators of the last months of 2024 are encouraging with respect to a recovery of the sales of computer products. It is not a couple for all segments, but marks a different trend for this year's course.

Sales show A gradual improvement
There are slight signals of improvement in volumes, although the market remains below the levels reached in 2022.
Dand according to a statement from the Argentine Chamber of wholesale distributors of computer and related computer science (Cadmipya), Computer sales, which in the first semester of 2024 had fallen 50% in value and 5% in units, began to reverse that process. For the first nine months of last year, the units marked a decrease of only 0.8%, and in value, the fall was reduced to 40.8% according to Chamber Statistics and the International Auditor of Computer Science Context.
Sales from January to September of the companies nucleated by Cadmipya, totaled 476 million dollars compared to the 804 million of the same period of 2023. The imports of the Cadmipya partners reached 262 million dollars in the third quarter of this year, 43 % less than in the same period of the previous year, but 70 % higher than the second quarter of 2024.
"During the first quarter of 2024, the IT sector faced a 54% pronounced year -on -year drop in the income of wholesalers," said Astrid Ureel, Country Manager of Context for the region. “However, since the second quarter, the industry evidence, driven by the performance of key categories such as internal and multifunctional ink injection Routers, SSDs, which achieved remarkable recovery. While these figures are encouraging, other categories, such as notebooks and desktop computers, continue to face significant decreases of 52% and 62%, respectively, although with slight signals of improvement against the first semester. ”
Ureel added that a key data of the third quarter of 2024 is the contrast between income and the volume of sales, because while revenues fell 30% year -on -year in all hardware categories, the volume of units sold increased by 30%, a partial recovery compared to 2023, driven by prioritizing greater volumes with more tight margins. "However, the sales volume follow 43% below the levels of 2022, which shows that the market has not yet regained its performance prior to the crisis," he closed.
According to Cadmipya's analysis
"The worst already happened"
ALejandro Boggio, president of the Argentine Chamber of wholesale distributors of computer science, producers and related. (Cadmipya) said in a recent statement where the Chamber analyzed the behavior of the sector during the past year and the projections and needs forward, that the worst of the crisis has already happened. "We saw indications of recovery in July, and in the last quarter of 2024 we saw how the growth of sales in units began to consolidate," he said. "The recovery of sales is pending in terms of value."
Boggio stressed that it is evident that price promotions were made to underpin the recovery of the sector, in addition to reducing the inventories that had accumulated by import restrictions of the previous year and the demand drop in the first months of 2024. He also expressed expectations that the optimistmus that was generated in the last quarter of 2024 is projected to 2025.
“The end of the country tax, the expected reduction of tax withholdings at the time of importing, together with a low potential of import tariffs of the computer sector, are fundamental to provide predictability and help technology be more actionable to people and companies in the country, he added. "We have been maintaining that it is necessary to advance in a reduction in the high tax burden that our products have, which, for example, an imported notebook has 66% taxes in our country, when in Brazil it is 55%, in Chile 26% and in Colombia 19%."
The president of Cadmipya said, in addition, that the measures that make it possible to increase the purchases of Courier from $ 1000 to $ 3000, with the only payment of VAT at the time of importing, although they help lower the prices of computer science for individuals, place in clear competitive disadvantage to companies in the sector that import to supply demand in retail chains, or to those integrators who add value and provide after -sales services to innumerable SMEs that need technology to improve their productivity. "Tax decline must be equitable for all market actors, and should not favor only outside platforms," he closed.
