The IT industry oscillates between increased demand and shortage of supply
Demand for laptops, desktop machines, batteries and other computing items increased almost 60% during lockdown, as those working in offices increased their demand.

The demand for laptops, desktop machines, batteries and other computing elements increased almost 60% during isolation, as those who worked in offices began to work at home. Alejandro Boggio, president of the Argentine Chamber of Computer Wholesale Distributors, Producers and Related Products (CADMIPyA), stated that the main problem in the sector is supply, and added that the dialogue is permanent with other chambers in the sector, manufacturers and channels. “We work on the problems of our market and speak with government agencies and Banco Nación, supporting official initiatives to provide essential equipment for working and studying during the pandemic,” he noted. "The main problem that exists in the sector is supply. There are shortages of components in the world and that affects the production of all types of equipment. Additionally, there is a logistical problem of increased freight costs, both air and sea, decreased frequencies and delays in ports that prolong delivery times."
Boggio highlighted that the Chamber is constantly looking for financing alternatives for the channel and for the final consumer, because credit will continue to be a tool and a necessity to generate business and there are several partners who started or resumed the manufacturing of notebooks and PCs, or are in the process of starting.
The impact of the pandemic was strong and the premise was to adapt to digital life at a much faster pace. "Companies changed their priorities and postponed infrastructure projects, which caused certain brands and channels to suffer a drop in demand for their products and services," Boggio closed. "This was not only in our country, but globally. Today we are slowly seeing a normalization in supply and demand, with consumers more cautious when making purchasing decisions, companies resuming projects and greater availability of products in the country."
