Keeping our homes clean and sustainable starts with small habits that make a big impact. Therefore, it is important to remember that cleaning our appliances is key to efficient operation and a healthier planet.

Although its mission is to leave clothes sparkling, the washing machine also needs a cleaning routine to avoid the accumulation of soap residue, moisture and microorganisms that can affect its performance and even leave bad odors or stains on your clothes.

As part of World Cleaning Day, celebrated on September 20, Gafa shares some tips so that your washing machine always stays like new.

1.Monthly cleaning cycle: Use the longest, highest temperature wash cycle to clean the drum. You can use white vinegar in the soap compartment or specialized products. This helps remove residue and prevent bad odors in our clothes and in the washing machine.

2.Dry the drum: After each use, leave the door open so that moisture can evaporate and prevent the appearance of mold.

3.Clean the filter: Check and clean the filter every one or two months. This improves performance and prevents clogging. Also check the rubber that covers the drum, there is always lint or moisture that we are not seeing and can generate bad odors on our clothes.

4.Take care of the soap compartment: Take it out and rinse it with hot water to remove traces of soap and fabric softener. You can use a brush for better cleaning. Remember that it is always important to use the recommended amount of soap to avoid buildup.

5.Prevents overloading: Follow the instructions for your washing machine and respect the indicated weight. Respect the appropriate loads according to the type of clothing, to help better preserve the motor and the quality of the wash.

6.Program efficient washes: Choose cycles according to the type and quantity of clothes, and wash with cold water whenever you can. Your clothes and the planet will thank you!
